Basic Income

The Open Party supports a universal basic income as the foundation of social security reform in Finland.

What is Basic Income?

A basic income is a regular, unconditional payment to every citizen. It replaces the current complex system of social benefits with a simple, dignified foundation that ensures no one falls through the cracks.

Why Basic Income?

  • Eliminates bureaucratic poverty traps
  • Encourages entrepreneurship and part-time work
  • Provides security during career transitions
  • Reduces administrative costs
  • Respects individual freedom and responsibility

Our Proposal

We propose implementing a basic income that can be funded through a two-bracket flat tax system, where the basic income amount equals the current level of basic social security.
